2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup

The U-20 World Cup Women's 2012 (official 2012 FIFA U -20 Women's World Cup) was the sixth playout of this competition for soccer players aged under 20 (deadline: January 1, 1992) and took place from 19 August to 8 September 2012 in Japan. Japan was thus after the men in 1979 and the U -17 World Cup Men 1993 Junior World Championships for the third time host a FIFA tournament at junior level. Award of the tournament

Originally the tournament was to be awarded at the meeting of the FIFA Executive Committee on 19 March 2010. In order to provide the potential buyer more time to prepare the decision was postponed. Vietnam subsequently received the award, but later renounced the alignment. The reason for this was that the Vietnamese Association received too little support from the government. On 3 March 2011, FIFA awarded the tournament in Uzbekistan. On 18 December 2011, the FIFA Uzbekistan withdrew "due to a number of logistical and technical problems," the host law. As a new host country Japan has been proposed, which was confirmed on February 8, 2012.

Venues

Qualification

The four European representatives qualified for the U-19 European Championship 2011 in Italy. In each case, the two best teams in the two preliminary groups qualified for the World Cup. In addition to European champions Germany, Italy, Norway and Switzerland qualified.

Asian participants were determined at the U-19 Asia Cup 2011 in Vietnam. The tournament was held in the period from 6 to 16 October 2011 at the tournament in the form of a round tournament. Even before the last day of group matches were decided, the three finalists of the Asian Football Association with Japan, North Korea and China. Since Japan is qualified as host, the South Koreans could qualify.

Brazil and Argentina as the winner as runner qualified for the U-20 South American Championship.

The North and Central American representatives were determined at the CONCACAF U -20 Women's Championship, which was held from March 1 to 11, 2012. In addition to tournament winners USA also the finalist from Canada could qualify. The third qualifying place in Mexico secured 3rd place match against host Panama.

The African representatives were determined in May 2012 at the U -20 African Cup of women. Ghana and vice world champion Nigeria failed to qualify.

The oceanic representatives of New Zealand was established at the U- 20 Football Ozeanienmeisterschaft of women from 10 to 14 April 2012.

Golden Ball

Dzsenifer Marozsán was honored as the best player of the tournament with the Golden Ball, the Silver Ball went to the Japanese Hanae Shibata and the Bronze Ball received the Spielführin the U.S. team Julie Johnston.

Golden Shoe

With the Golden Boot as top scorer of the tournament, the North Korean Kim Un -hwa was excellent. Kim scored during the tournament seven goals, including five in the 9-0 against Argentina. Second place went to the Japanese Yōko Tanaka before the German Lena Lotzen who achieved both six goals, but differed by the number of templates.

Golden Glove

The award for the third time Golden Glove for best goalkeeper went to the German Laura Benkarth who suffered only one goal in the final against the United States. A Silver or Bronze Glove was not awarded.

Fair Play award

As fairest team, the team from Japan was honored.

Referees

FIFA nominated 14 referees and 28 assistants for the 32 matches of the tournament. Hosts Japan and the People's Republic of China provide two referees and two assistants and a referee and three assistants the largest contingent. The official opening match between Japan and Mexico led Christine Baitinger. The finale led Pernilla Larsson.

29 of the 32 games were of Euro Sports (18 games) and Euro Sport 2 ( 11 games) broadcast live, including all matches with German participation, and all games from the quarter- finals.

Trivia

  • With the victory in the quarter- final against Norway, the German team was able to win all competitions 11 games in a row and not lose (both records previously held the U.S. with 10 games between 2002 and 2004 ), as well as first team all competitions five games in a row without first team end goal. In the semifinals, the records were extended to 12 or six games and at the same time, increased the previous record of the Chinese U-20 team, which in 2006 was 508 minutes without conceding a goal to 566 minutes.
