2014 AFC Challenge Cup

The final round of the fifth AFC Challenge Cup will take place from 19 to 30 May 2014 the Maldives. The winner of the competition will qualify as the 16th team for the finals of the Asian Cup 2015 in Australia.

The Maldives were appointed on 28 November 2012 as the host of the Challenge Cup. The games will take place in Rasmee - Dhandu Stadium in Malé and in Hithadhoo Zone Stadium in Addu City on the Addu Atoll. From the 13th January 2014, renovation work began in two stages.

Qualification

The Maldives qualified automatically as hosts. Until the official deadline to 20 member associations had registered for participation. These were divided at the draw in five groups of four teams that should be playing in the tournament against each other. The group winners and two best runners qualified for the final tournament.

Fixtures and Results

Preliminary round

The four teams compete in two groups (A and B) in the championship system against each other, ie, each team plays once against every other team in the group. In the group stage is one of a three win, one for a draw, one defeat does not score. In each group table, the points are added.

Case of a tie between two teams decided in the following order over the place in the table and getting ahead: the matches between the teams in question (larger number of points, goal difference, goals scored ), the goal difference and greater number of goals scored in all group matches and eventually the lot.

In the semi-finals and the final knockout system is played at. Is it at the games of the final round after the regular time of 90 minutes in a draw, it comes to the extension of two periods of 15 minutes, and possibly (if still firmly stands no winner) the penalty shoot-out.
