2015 AFC Asian Cup

The 16th Asian Cup will be held in Australia from 9 to 31 January 2015. The official name of the event is AFC Asian Cup 2015 ™. There are sixteen national teams compete first in the group stage into four groups and then in the knockout system against each other.

The winner of the AFC Asian Cup 2015 will represent the Asian continent at the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 in Russia.

It is the first tournament of this confederation, which is not discharged on Asian ground.

Host

The Asian Football Confederation ( AFC) was the host for the tournament on January 5, 2011 in Doha as part of the people there are Asian Cup 2011. Australia is the first time a football unsubscribe Asia Championship for Men. Previously had been in 1998 and 2004, Australia hosted the Asian Cup Women 2006, and in the men of Ozeanienmeisterschaften.

Venues

The Lang Park in Brisbane has a seating capacity of 52,500, making it the second largest after Sydney hosted the Asia Cup. Here seven games of the preliminary round and a quarter -final match will be played. A further seven preliminary round games will be held in Canberra, the Canberra Stadium offers 25,000 spectators, making it the smallest of the five stages.

The Newcastle International Sports Centre in Newcastle offers 33,000 spectators and is the venue of four matches, including a semi-finals and the match for third place to be.

Qualifying phase

In addition to hosts Australia and the top three teams in the Asia Cup 2011 will qualify directly for the finals as Australia it took second place, only two other teams qualified in this way. Eleven participants were determined over the full qualification, the other two places will go to the winner of the AFC Challenge Cup in 2012 and 2014.

The 20 teams entered were placed according to their results in qualifying for the Asian Cup in 2011 and their final round. In the draw for the qualifying groups on 9 October 2012 in Melbourne they were distributed to five groups of four teams. The draw for the finals will be held on March 26, 2014 at the Sydney Opera House.
