( 23990 ) Springsteen is an asteroid of the inner main belt, by the British astronomer Ian P. Griffin with the Edith Winstone Blackwell telescope, a 50 -cm Cassegrain telescope at the Auckland Observatory in Cornwall Park on 4 September 1999 Auckland, New Zealand (IAU code 467 ) was discovered. The observatory is now called Stardome Observatory. An unconfirmed sighting of the asteroid it had in 1960 given the provisional designation 9536 PL as part of the Palomar - Leiden survey.

Mean distance from the sun ( semimajor axis), eccentricity and inclination of the orbital plane of the asteroid similar to the path data of the members of the Flora family, a large group of asteroids that is named after ( 8) flora. Asteroids of this family move in an orbital resonance of 4:9 with the planet Mars around the Sun. The group is also called Ariadne family after the asteroid (43 ) Ariadne.

( 23990 ) Springsteen was named after the American musician Bruce Springsteen on 5 July 2001. Ian P. Griffin is a Bruce Springsteen fan. While the discovery of the asteroid, astronomers at the observatory had heard Springsteen's album The Ghost of Tom Joad.
