320th Infantry Division (Wehrmacht)

The 320th Infantry Division was a military major unit of the Wehrmacht in the German Reich.

History

The 320th Infantry Division was (Lübeck ) established on 2 December 1940 at Military District X as down-home division of the 13 -up wave of military units of the 58th Infantry Division of the Military District X and the 254th Infantry Division of the Military District VI.

First, the division was stationed in France. As the German positions had been broken in many places during the Soviet attacks on the Don, the division was transferred to the Eastern Front, north of Kupjansk used for defense and encircled north of Kharkov from the Soviet attack Stary Oskol in associations.

After reinforcements and reclassification to 18 September 1943, the Division was in January and February 1944 in Kirovohrad space. They also fought then in southern Ukraine, until it was destroyed in August 1944 and officially declared on October 9, 1944 resolved.

On October 27, 1944, the 320th Volks Grenadier Division was in the military district II from a facility for the 32nd wave in preparation 588th Infantry Division, also known as Shadow Division Möckern, newly erected on the military training area large -Born. It also remains of the old division were used. After the fighting around Krakow and in the Carpathians, the division was withdrawn and refreshed because of heavy losses in March 1945. It was still the Grenadier ( junior leader ) Regiment in 1243 incorporated in April 1945 from Potsdam Grenadier Regiment 585. The division came into Soviet captivity in the Moravian - German Brod.

Organization

The division was initially composed as indigenous Division battalions from the 58th and 254th Infantry Division and reclassified in the autumn of 1942 to attack Association. On September 18, 1943, a further reclassification took place.
