5th Berlin International Film Festival

The International Film Festival took place in 1955 to 5th July 1955 by the 24th of June.

Summary

The advertising budget of the Berlinale increased for the fifth year to 60,000 DM festival director Alfred Bauer campaigned on sector boundaries to East Berlin on large and highly visible billboards for the film festival, which has been called the "Olympics of the film", which had an impact on the program design: Thus, in the movies, a country code has been applied. The Federal Republic of Germany was the official co-organizer of the festival for the first time.

The main prize at the Berlinale first went to a German movie: Robert Siodmak Gerhart Hauptmann filming The rats with the young Maria Schell won the final public vote. The film beat Otto Preminger's Carmen Jones, and even Billy Wilder's The damn 7 year ( The Seven Year Itch ) with Marilyn Monroe.
