6th Dalai Lama

Life

Tsangyang Gyatsho was educated in secret, according to the provisions of the Regent in 1679 appointed by his predecessor Lobsang Gyatsho, the Dipa / Desi Sanggye Gyatsho. The reason for this was that officially, that is, for foreign policy purposes, nor the 5th Dalai Lama was alive ( until April 1697 ), and thus also were to be no rebirth.

Tsangyang Gyatsho was a fun-loving young man, known for his sensuous life change. He was confirmed by the Penchen Lama as Dalai Lama, but received religious instruction from Lobsang Yeshe Penchen. It should be seen as a sign of special respect relationship between these two llamas that Tsangyang Gyatsho specially traveled to Trashilhünpo in Shigatse to return his monastic vows and to get the lay state.

Unable to meet its obligations - but still equipped with worldly privileges - he fell into the power struggle between the rulers Sanggye Gyatsho and a Mongol Khan called Lhabzang Khan (r. 1703-1717 ) of the Qoshoten. The tried him after the dethroning of the regents to settle down, but the llamas were that the sixth Dalai Lama does not lose its status as the reincarnation because of his " lack of spirit of enlightenment." Now hand Lhabzang to violence and ultimately prevailed ( siege of Drepung Monastery ). Tsangyang Gyatsho was " a trip to China " sent to where he was probably murdered in November 1706. According to other sources, he said to have died from a disease unspecified.

Tsangyang Gyatsho regarded as the great poet among the rulers of Tibet, and for this reason it is very popular to this day in the Tibetan people.
