75th Infantry Division (Wehrmacht)

The 75th Infantry Division was from 1939 to 1945 a military major unit of the Wehrmacht.

Division history

The 75th Infantry Division (ID) was set up on 26 August 1939 as a division of the second wave formation from the 12th Infantry Division. After border security tasks in the Saar-Palatinate, the division was used from mid- 1940 in Poland, 1941, provides the eve of Operation Barbarossa the 6th Army. With this, the division moved up in the Ukraine, was first in Kiev, then to mid-1942 near Belgorod in use.

Subsequently, the 75th ID different armies was subordinated and has been reclassified several times. After withdrawal movements across the Carpathians and Beskydy up to Upper Silesia, the division was broken up and disbanded in the spring of 1945 by the Red Army in Moravian Ostrava.
