9012Live: The Solos

Occupation

9012Live: The Solos is the title of a live mini album and a concert film of the British progressive rock band Yes from 1985 The title is derived from the name of the previous album 90125. . With the total of 16 album Yes released their third live album.

Formation

The successful world tour for their album 90125 (February 28, 1984 - February 9, 1985, 139 shows) followed in 1985 the release of a mini album with shots from the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund (24th June 1984) and the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Canada ( September 28, 1984 ).

About its origin, and the preparations for its publication almost nothing is known. The album was released in late 1985, when the band to their next studio album Big Generator just put in the work. The questions on the share, the band had the one hand and management on the other hand the concept of 9012Live, are still unanswered. The mini- LP presents primarily the solos of the five participating musicians (Jon Anderson: vocals, accompanied by Tony Kaye ( Soon), Tony Kaye: Keyboard Solo ( Si), Trevor Rabin: Guitar Solo ( Solly 's Beard ), Chris Squire: Bass Solo ( Amazing Grace) and Alan White: Schlagzeug-/Basssolo with Chris Squire ( Whitefish ) ). Only Whitefish and Soon were already been played in different variations, before, former heard in a form similar to 9012Live, the latter as part of a medley (on the Tormato tour) and as part of The Gates of Delirium from the album Relayer ( Soon had been released as a single in 1974 ).

Since the early seventies it was common for Yes, each of the musicians involved in each case granted a solo spot, within which he could put his skills on his instrument to the test. On the studio album Fragile (1971 ) was to introduce the concept, band compositions in addition to solo pieces, has been implemented on a studio album by the band. Never before, however the solos of the band members had been all to hear on a live album. Insofar 9012Live is the live counterpart of Fragile: A dual-band compositions ( Hold on and changes, both from the then current album 90125 ) are 5 solos over. Of the songs played during the tour (in Dortmund: Cinema, Leave It, Yours Is No Disgrace, Hold On, Hearts, I've Seen All Good People, Si (Tony Kaye solo), Solly's Beard ( Trevor Rabin solo), Changes, Soon (Jon Anderson solo), Make It Easy / Owner Of A Lonely Heart, And You And I, Long Distance Runaround / Whitefish ( Chris Squire / Alan White Solo) / Amazing Grace ( Chris Squire Solo), City Of Love, It Can Happen, Starship Trooper, Roundabout, I'm Down ( Beatles cover, with surprise guest Jimmy Page ) in Edmonton: Cinema, Leave It, Hold On, I've Seen All Good People, Our Song, Hearts, Solly's Beard ( Trevor Rabin solo), Changes, And You And I, Soon (Jon Anderson solo), Make It Easy / Owner Of A Lonely Heart, It Can Happen, Amazing Grace ( Chris Squire solo), Whitefish ( Chris Squire / Alan White solo ) / City of Love, Starship Trooper, Roundabout, Gimme Some Lovin ' ( Spencer Davis Group Cover) ) could be heard only Hold On and Changes ( both recordings from Edmonton ). This fact was responsible for ensuring that the live mini-album only sold sluggishly and today only is difficult to obtain.

The concert in Edmonton was filmed by Hollywood director Steven Soderbergh and 1987 under the title 9012Live later released on VHS and on DVD, albeit incomplete. Excerpts from the concert film ( Hold On and I've Seen All Good People) are also published on the video compilation Greatest Video Hits (1991). The Edmontoner live recording of the song City Of Love was released in 1987 as a B- side of the single Rhythm Of Love.

To this day ( early 2008 ) not a complete concert of the 90125 Tour has been published.
