( 9567 ) Surgut is one of the inner main belt asteroid, which was discovered by the Ukrainian- Soviet astronomer Ljudmyla Schurawlowa on October 22, 1987 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj (IAU code 095). Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid, there had been earlier in Nautschnyj the Crimean Observatory: September 24, 1976 ( 1976 SU5 ) and 26 October 1976 ( 1976 UK1 ).

The sun orbit of the asteroid is highly elliptical with an eccentricity of 0.2106. Mean distance from the sun ( semimajor axis), eccentricity and inclination of the orbital plane of the asteroids are within the respective limits that are defined for the Nysa group, one named after (44 ) Nysa group of asteroids (also called Hertha family, according to (135 ) Hertha). After FORMING classification (Small Main -Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey) were assumed in ( 9567 ) Surgut of a dark surface with a spectroscopic investigation of Gianluca Masi, Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel, it might be so, roughly speaking, to act a C- asteroids.

( 9567 ) Surgut was named after the western Siberian city of Surgut on 5 July 2001.
