( 98494 ) Marsupilami is an asteroid of the inner main belt, which was discovered by the French scientist and amateur astronomer Jean -Claude Merlin on 27 October 2000 at the observatory in Le Creusot, Saône -et -Loire, (IAU code 504).

The mean diameter of the asteroid is estimated at just over three kilometers.

( 98494 ) Maruspilami belongs to Nysa group, one named after (44 ) Nysa group of asteroids (also called Hertha family, according to (135 ) Hertha).

( 98494 ) Marsupilami was named on 19 September 2005 at the suggestion of Jean -Claude Merlin after the Marsupilami, a conceived and drawn by André Franquin comic figure.
