A Patch of Blue is an American feature film from the year 1965. The film is based on a novel by Australian writer Elizabeth Kata.

Action

The 18 -year-old Selina D' Arcey has been blind since an accident in early childhood. She has since lived with her mother, the prostitute Rose -Ann, and her alcoholic grandfather Ole Pa imprisoned in their homes. She was never allowed to attend school and, therefore, has not mastered the Braille. Your only job is housework. One day her grandfather takes her on a walk in the park. There she is scared about never experienced impressions. The young Colored Gordon Ralfe is aware of them. From now on, Selina convinces her grandfather to take them every day in the park. Gordon and Selina meet there regularly and become friends. One of their meeting is being watched by the prostitute Sadie thereof Rose -Ann reported. The mother proposes to take Selina and tried to explain to her why she can not meet with a colored man. Gordon tries to accommodate Selina in a school for the blind again. This, however, contradicts Rose- Ann's and Sadie's plans. The two women would like to open a brothel in which Selina is supposed to be the main attraction.
