Shelley Winters
Shelley Winters ( born August 18, 1920 in East St. Louis as Shirley font; † January 14, 2006 in Beverly Hills ) was an American actress.
Life and work
Originally from an Austrian Jewish immigrant family actress had success in comedies and musicals on Broadway and was closely associated with the Actors Studio. In films, she took roles since 1943.
In their mature years winter was a popular character actress, who did not shrink from acting unusual challenges. In 1972, she fell in The Poseidon Adventure on with an underwater scene, which she mastered mostly without double. For this role, Winters earned one of her four Oscar nominations. She received the trophy twice, for her roles in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959 ); she donated this Oscar the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, where he is still to be seen, and A Patch of Blue (1965).
In 1972, Winters as Johnny Carson's Tonight Show guest in a loud, finally, physical confrontation with Oliver Reed, after he had given her opinion misogynistic utterances.
Shelley Winters was married four times: with the seller Mack Paul Mayer of Chicago, the actor Vittorio Gassman, actor Anthony Franciosa and Gerry DeFord. Latter she married a few hours before her death. From the marriage with her daughter Victoria comes Gassman.
You already discovered in the 1960s, the talent of Robert De Niro and promoted him. In 1967, she was godmother of Laura Dern, which promoted it as well. Shelley Winters has published several autobiographies, where they were highly acclaimed information about the show business.
The actress, who had suffered a heart attack on 14 October 2005, died on 14 January 2006 at the age of 85 years due to heart failure at the Rehabilitation Center in Beverly Hills. Their final resting place is located on the Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City, California.
