From 1873 to 1882, the Swiss Central Railway (SCB ) built together with the Swiss Northeastern Railway (NOB ) a terminal connection to their distances to the then emerging Gotthard Railway. This is operated by the Southern Railway Central Railway Aargauische led by Rupperswil about Lenzburg, Wohlen and Red Cross to Immensee. In Immensee the route of the Gotthard Railway ( km 0), the change of locomotive for freight trains starts but found at the beginning usually in the Red Cross, and only in exceptional cases in Immensee instead. Zweigstrecken led Wohlen to Bremgarten and Hendschiken to Brugg.

The routes were opened as follows:

Until its opening all trains over the Bözberg towards Gotthard had in Brugg head make ( contact ).

The construction of the Clear Mountain Road (operating recording 1975) the leg Rupperswil - Lenzburg - Othmarsingen has been significantly upgraded, most of the east-west traffic between Zurich and Bern now leads through here.

On 12 December 1980, the first five tracks of the " balancing group Dottikon " were put into operation, called the remaining five tracks timetable change on 31 May 1981.
