History

Aarhus Nærbane 1999 was a transport policy decision by the Socialdemokraterne, Det Radical Venstre, Socialistisk Folkeparti and Enhedslisten. In this agreement, the funding was regulated.

On 13 December 2003, the first part of the concept Aarhus Nærbane was taken on the stretch between Aarhus, Hornslet and Grenaa in operation. Thus, the distance from Aarhus to Grenaa was expanded to achieve shorter travel times. Since then, there is a half hour on working days at most stations between Aarhus and Hornslet.

The project was delayed. Agreed until 20 January 2011 DSB and the Jutland region, which has a majority stake in Midtjyske Jernbaner A / S to operate the route from the end of 2011 together. However, the reconstruction of the workshop was in Odder, where the railcars to be used MQ series should be serviced, larger than expected.

In an agreement in June 2012 between the Government, the Enhedslisten and the Danish People's Party 140 million crowns were granted, to procure four Desiro multiple units in addition to the eight already circulating in Grenaa. After the planned electrification of the entire route Odder Grenaa diesel trains can be used elsewhere.

The route connecting the two routes under a single operator in Aarhus H was possible because economic barriers on September 26, 2012, eliminated by the Regional Council of the Region Midtjylland approved additional funding in the amount of 13 million. Thus, the annual expenses of the region for the operation of the line to 24 million crowns.

Merging the routes

Danske Statsbaner, which were operated the route to Grenaa, now took the additional train services on the route between Aarhus and Odder. There, led to the end of 2012 Midtjyske Jernbaner train traffic through. Midtjyske Jernbaner remains owner and maintains the infrastructure of the route.

For the historical development of Odderbanen see:

Like the S -tog A / S operated by DSB DSB S -Bahn subsidiary in Copenhagen was first planned to operate the transport system in the region around Aarhus with its subsidiary DSB Nærbane Aarhus A / S. However, this was on December 14, 2012 in liquidation.

Modern Desiro trains DSB MQ series that already drove on the track to Grenaa, replace the more than 40 years old railcars Y- trains, which previously went to Odder. Traffic on Aarhus Nærbane was opened on December 9, 2012. The inauguration was celebrated with free car trains on three weekends in December 2012.

The commissioning of the total distance was difficult. DSB had to cancel 66 trains in the first nine days of operation, additional 176 trains were delayed.
