Aarhus Letbane

Aarhus Letbane is an ongoing project for a light rail system in Aarhus and the surrounding communities. In the current form of the expansion in the form of a so-called Light rail takes place.

First expansion phase

In the first phase the future light rail used since December 2012, the range of Aarhus Nærbane.

In the coming years, a new double-track line of Norreport about Skejby after Lystrup is built. For this purpose, the existing route between Aaarhus H and Nørreport should also be expanded to double track, so that thereafter the section between Aarhus H and Lystrup about Skejby is two-pronged. Further, a doubling of the track after Østbanetorvet and as an option, a short section at Lisbjerg is provided.

For the expansion I / S was founded a construction company with the Aarhus Letbane on which the city of Aarhus, the Transportministeriet and Midtjylland region are involved. After completion of the web this company is to be dissolved. The railway tracks would be handed over to an operation and infrastructure company, in which only the community and the region are represented as the founder. Midttrafik, the public transport company of Midtjylland Region, plans to complete Aarhus Letbane for the year 2017.

An agreement of June 2012 between the government and Danish People's Party Enhedslisten contains the decision to electrify not only the distance Aarhus H Lystrup, but to the entire route Odder Grenaa. For this purpose a grant of NOK 100 million was provided. Instead hybrid trains with the possibility of changing the drive of electric and diesel, which were not operating inclusion in usable versions, purely electric trains to be procured, the testing is carried out in other networks. In December 2012, four motor vehicle manufacturer for the procurement of the trains were pre-qualified.

Operation

In the day and rush hour following plan has been provided for the individual rail sections:

  • Odder Tranbjerg: 2 trains per hour
  • Tranbjerg -Aarhus H: 4 trains per hour
  • Aarhus H- Skejby Sygehus: 12 trains per hour
  • Skejby Sygehus - Lystrup: 4 trains per hour
  • Aarhus H Risskov - Lystrup: 1 train per hour
  • Lystrup - Hornslet: 3 trains per hour
  • Hornslet - Grenaa: 1 train per hour

For the individual line sections, this means:

  • Aarhus H- Skejby Sygehus (6 trains per hour)
  • Aarhus H- Skejby Sygehus - Lystrup - Hornslet ( 2 trains per hour)
  • Tranbjerg - H Aarhus Skejby Sygehus - Lystrup ( 2 trains per hour)
  • Odder Tranbjerg - H Aarhus Skejby Sygehus ( 2 trains per hour)
  • Aarhus H Risskov - Lystrup - Hornslet - Grenaa (1 train per hour)
