The Abadan Airport is a Persian airport on the outskirts of Abadan, Iran and is located about 50 km north of the Persian Gulf.
History
During the Second World War the airport was an important logistics center for the United States. As of May 1941, the United States Army Air Forces an Air Technical Service Command entertained. The Douglas Aircraft Company for operation with the 17th Air Depot Group an assembly and maintenance work for newly arrived aircraft. As part of the Lend-Lease Act also delivered in parts of aircraft were here assembled and test flights carried out.
Strengthened in the years 1942/1943, the Soviet Union was supplied via this airport in Iran on a large scale with war materials and food from the U.S.. The airport was designated as Station # 3. For the Air Transport Command, he was the hub with the connecting routes Mehrabad Airport, RAF Habbaniya in Iraq and Bahrain Airport, Bahrain.
