Abainville

Abainville is a commune with 292 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Meuse in the Lorraine region. It belongs administratively to the district COMMERCY and to Canton Gondrecourt -le- Château and is a member of the Association of Municipalities Val d' Ornois.

Geography

The municipality is situated approximately 55 kilometers southwest of Nancy in the valley of the river Ornain. Neighboring municipalities are:

  • Delouze - Rosières in the Northeast,
  • Badonvilliers - Gérauvilliers in the east,
  • Gondrecourt -le- Château in the south,
  • Bonnet in the west and
  • Houdelaincourt in the northwest.

Transport links

The municipality is mainly supplied by the department D966 road that follows the river Ornain. Also, the river itself is of traffic engineering significance, which it is expanded to the neighboring community Houdelaincourt as a shipping channel and represents a branch channel of the Canal de la Marne au Rhin.

History

An early mention of the settlement dates back to the year 1151 under the name " Abunivilla ".
