Mauvages
Mauvages is a commune with 279 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meuse in the Lorraine region.
Geography
The community Mauvages located about 40 kilometers south-west of Toul, at the summit level of the Rhine- Marne Canal, between the valleys of the Meuse and Ornain. The summit section is managed by a 4,880 m long tunnel, are pulled through the boats and ships of an electrically operated chain tugs at a speed of 2.5 km / h. The eastern end of the tunnel is located in the municipality of Mauvages why the tunnel is also referred to as a tunnel of Mauvages. The tunnel was built in 1842-1847.
