Aberfeldy is a whiskey distillery in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland. The distillery buildings are sorted in the Scottish lists of monuments in the B category.
History
The distillery on the outskirts of Aberfeldy was founded in 1896 by brothers John and Tommy Dewar on the banks of Tay, on the site of the former Pitilie distillery was operated here by Alexander McLean 1825-1867. The production of whiskey started in 1898. Between 1917 and 1919 was not produced. 1925 went to the distillery Distillers Company Limited ( DCL) and therefore Scottish Malt Distillers 1930 ( SMD). In 1972, the own malt house was closed and the number of stills doubled to four. Since 1998, the distillery is one of Bacardi.
Production
The water belonging to the Highlands distillery dates back to the Pitilie Burn. It has a mash tun ( mash do ) ( 6.8 t) of stainless steel fermentation tanks and eight (wash backs) ( per 34,000 liters ) of Siberian larch. Is distilled in two wash stills ( per 17,000 liters ) and two spirit stills are heated by steam ( per 14,000 liters ).
