Abijah of Judah

Abijah (Hebrew אביה ), of the tribe of Judah, the son of Rehoboam and Maacah / Micaiah, was the second king of Judah from about 913 BC to 910 BC.

About Abijah are only biblical sources. Like his father, Rehoboam was Abijah monotheism unfaithful and worshiped alongside Yahweh, the God of Judah and Israel, also Canaanite gods (1 Kings 15:1-8 EU). Next is to be found in the Bible a description of a battle against the army of King Jeroboam I of Israel ( 2 Chr 13.1 to 20 EU). Abijah tried to extend the northern boundary of Judah to Israel out there, was dangerously close after the division of the kingdom of Jerusalem, the capital of Judah on the border with Israel and from there easily could have been conquered. According to the biblical account Abijah smote the host of Jeroboam.

Abijah had a harem of 14 women with whom he fathered 22 sons and 16 daughters ( ( 2 Chr 13,21 EU) ). His son Asa became king of Judah after his death.
