Abraham Speijer

Abraham Speijer ( born November 19, 1873 in Amsterdam, † September 5, 1956 ) was a Dutch chess master.

Speijer counted at the beginning of the 20th century to the best chess players in the Netherlands. He took this time to a number of major international tournaments in part, including in Hilversum in 1903, where Speijer was fourth in Saint Petersburg in 1909, Hamburg 1910, Scheveningen 1913., 1908, he lost in Amsterdam a short match against then world champion Emanuel Lasker with 0, 5-2.5.

Speijer won in 1909 in Leiden together with Adolf Olland the inaugural round of the Dutch national championship with 5 points from eight games, but Olland was declared the champion because he had defeated Speijer in direct encounters. Speijer did not occur schachlich since the mid-1920s in appearance.
