Achau is a municipality with 1246 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) on the eastern edge of the district Mödling in Lower Austria.

History

Achau, first mentioned before 1170 in a papal document for the Admont to 1169 gives Duke Henry owned in Achau (then called Eichowe ). Wolfkerus de Aichowe is called for in 1177, so it has been around a solid house. The first lords of Achau are vassals of Mark Counts of Babenberg bad. The owner of the domain Achau change in the high and the Early Middle Ages very often; total are known by six ruling families. With family Haiden, which is also important in the Vienna city's history begins in 1447, a golden age for the rule, which lasted until the extinction of this noble family in 1599. 1732 is the Moser family from Ebenfurth with Karl Leopold Friedrich von Moser by purchase into the possession Achaus, on female succession takes the Moser- rule to the present day. Traffic

Achau is located at the intersection of Mödlinger road B 11, which connects in parallel to the S1 Vienna outer ring expressway Mödling Schwechat and the B16, which runs from Sopron about Eisenstadt to Vienna. Thus, the northern Vienna Basin, the city of Vienna, the Schwechat and the Leitha Mountains are easily accessible.
