Acon

Acon is a commune with 473 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region. In Acon a necropolis was found from the Neolithic, which is unique to the Paris Basin.

Geography

Acon is located in northern France, at the southern edge of the department of Eure Avre the river, 92 kilometers west of Paris, about 29 kilometers southwest of Évreux, headquarters of the sub-prefecture of the arrondissements, and 7.5 kilometers west of Nonancourt, the capital of the canton on a medium height of 147 meters above sea level. History

The name was first mentioned at the beginning of the 12th century as Acum documented. Other spellings were Acun (12th century), Agon (1230 ) and Achon ( 1234). According to Auguste Le Prévost is the place name of Celtic origin and means stone 'or' rock '. He assumed that the place name has the same origin as Agaunum (also Acaunum ). Other authors assume that the place name is derived from the Germanic name Acco. [Note 3] [note 4]

In the 12th century the first Seigneurs were mentioned. Simon d' Anet confirmed in the cartulary of the Abbey of Le Bec a gift by his father Simon to the abbey.
