Adalbert Boros

Adalbert Boros ( born September 20, 1908 in Erdőhegy, Arad County, now part of Chişineu - Criş, Romania, † 6 June 2003 in Timişoara) was Titular Archbishop of Ressiana, provost of the Diocese of Timişoara and rector of the seminary Timişoara.

Training

Adalbert Boros was born in 1908 in the Banat. After his secondary school education in the Order of Piaristen completed in Timisoara (1918-1926), he studied philosophy and theology at the Gregorian University in Rome (1926-1934) as an alumnus of the theological colleges Germanicum et Hungaricum de Urbe.

Priest career

On October 30, 1932 he was ordained to the priesthood at the Gregorian. In 1934 he received his doctorate in philosophy and theology. Back in Romania was Adalbert Boros 1934 professor of dogmatics and polemics at the seminary in Timisoara, which he was Rector from 1947 to 1949.

Secret episcopal ordination

In October 1948, the seminary was closed by decree of the Communist regime. Students were prohibited under penalty threatened to complete their studies in the course. In this situation, Prof. Adalbert Boros made ​​sure that the students housed in their home pastors and were prepared with teaching letters and books secretly to the exams and the priesthood.

Adalbert Boros was consecrated on December 12, 1948 by Gerald Patrick O'Hara, Bishop of Savannah and the rain of the Apostolic Nunciature, in the chapel of the Nunciature in Bucharest bishop.

Arrest and death

After 1947, the Roman Catholic Church in Romania lost its legal basis. Clergy were arrested, organizations banned and confiscated possessions. From 10 to September 17, 1951 was held in Bucharest the Stalinist show trial of the so-called " spies of the Vatican " instead. Adalbert Boros was arrested on March 10, 1951 and sentenced by a military tribunal in Bucharest to life imprisonment. Of this he served 13 years, two and a half years in solitary confinement. Together with him bishop Augustin Pacha and other members of the chapter were convicted. After his release, he worked as a chaplain / assistant priest in Elizabeth City.

Archbishop

After the revolution of 1989, he was already too old to exercise the episcopal office. On 14 March 1990, he was named John Paul II appointed Archbishop per hac vice of Titularbistums Ressiana. Archbishop Adalbert Boros took part in the consecration of Sebastian herbs in the Cathedral of Timisoara on 28 April 1990. On August 14, 1990, he was elected by the newly formed Timisoara cathedral chapter to the provost of the diocese.

Adalbert Boros died on 6 June 2003 in Timişoara at the age of 95 years. His earthly remains were buried in the cathedral crypt of Timisoara.
