Adalberto López

Adalberto " Dumbo " López ( born July 4, 1923 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, † 1996 in Los Angeles, California ) was a Mexican footballer, who five times top scorer in the Mexican Primera División and was his most successful period was in the jersey of Leon AC. His nickname " Dumbo " he received because of his big ears.

Career

Dumbo López was one of the most successful center forward of Mexico. He made his debut in 1941 for the CF Atlante, in which he stood until 1946 under contract. However, it was during those five years only due for Atlante in use, because his club had temporarily loaned him out to the Puebla FC. Unfortunately for the talented López was namely that Horacio Casarín, the undisputed star of Atlante, just took the same position. Because Atlante was no room for two center-forward in the long run, it finally came López León, where he played from 1946 to 1950. During this time he was with Leon twice champion and won in 1949 even the Double. These successes López had a not to be underestimated proportion. Finally, he was in the three seasons between 1946/47 and 1948/49, with a total of 97 hits three times top scorer in the Mexican league. This important his 36 goals in the 1947/48 season a very special record which for 48 years had stock: namely could never score as many goals in the premier league a Mexican player. This record was equaled by Carlos Hermosillo until 1995/96, which also brought it in that season to 36 matches.

1950/51 played López at Atlas Guadalajara, felt there but not well and moved to city rivals Oro. In whose jersey he was 1951/52, again top scorer, to which in that year ranged " meager " 16 results. His next stop was the third first division of the city, Guadalajara, where he trailed off his career in the season 1953/54, and with 21 goals scorer of the Mexican League again; though he had to share the title this time with two other players. Overall, Dumbo López was so five times top scorer in the Mexican league football - as often as any other Mexican players. In general, he was surpassed in this respect only by the Brazilian Evanivaldo Castro, who won the Mexican top scorer eight times. Throughout his career, Dumbo brought it to 196 goals in the Primera División.
