Adam Pynacker

Adam Christiaensz Pijnacker or Pynacker (* 1620 or 1622 in Schiedam, buried on March 28, 1673 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch painter of the Golden Age, primarily of landscapes.

Life and work

Pijnacker was born the son of a wine merchant who is a member in the Vroedschap was the city regency. He traveled to Italy and was gone three years. In 1658 he converted to Catholicism to marry Eva Maria de Geest, the daughter of Wybrand de Geest. Two years later his father painted a portrait of him, as a counterpart to an earlier portrait of his wife. In Schiedam he baptized two children, from 1661, he lived but to his death on the Rozengracht in Amsterdam.

Pijnacker is considered as an example of an Italy itinerant landscape painter ( Italianate landscape painter), such as Jan Both, Jan Baptist Weenix, Nicolaes Berchem and Jan Asselyn. He specialized in the decoration of entire rooms. The poet P. Verhoek wrote a poem about one of his decorated rooms.
