Adolf Hoch

Adolf high ( born June 17, 1910 in Winterberg, Bohemia; † 24 May 1992, Vienna) was an Austrian architect. He won in 1948 at the Olympic Games in London with a ski-jump model the art competition. High studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and received his diploma with Peter Behrens. High, from 1933 member of the NSDAP since 1938 worked as a freelance architect. After 1945 he worked mainly for the Vienna city administration.

Buildings

As the most important Vorkriegsbau of high applies ( together with Ernst Otto Hoffmann) the industrial plant of Goerz Elektro-Werke (Vienna 10, Sonnleithnergasse 5, 1938), which is stylistically clearly influenced by Behrens School.

After 1945, build high inter alia, the international cultural site Hörndlwald (Vienna 13, Joseph Lister - Gasse 72, 1949).

Special recognition reached the designed of high Opernpassage ( Vienna 1, Opera Ring, 1952/1955 ). The Opernpassage followed by other Passagenbauten in the annular region to Schottentor. High self- built three of them: ( Albertina Passage, Babenberger Passage and Bellaria Passage, 1961-1964 ) as well as the underground passage and tram station Südtirolerplatz on the belt (1959). The Vienna passages concept at that time was also international attention. In 2012, however, only the Opernpassage was of highs passages largely in its original condition.

High was also a specialist in hospital construction. He planned among other things, built in 1952 Unfallkrankenhaus Meidling.
