Adolf Klein

Adolf Klein ( born August 15, 1847 in Vienna, † March 11, 1931 in Berlin) was an Austrian actor and theater director.

Life

Adolf Klein attended despite the opposition of his father, the Vienna Conservatory and made ​​his debut in 1865 in Baden near Vienna. In the years of his development as an actor a restless wandering life took him to Bucharest. In 1871, Klein received an engagement at the National Theatre, Berlin, 1872, he played in Königsberg from 1873 to 1876 in Leipzig and from 1876 to 1880 after a successful stint as Mephisto and Wallenstein at the court theater in Berlin.

From there he was appointed Franz von Dingelstedt as a character actor at the Burgtheater. In addition, he worked from 1884 to 1885 at Hamburg's Thalia Theatre, 1885-1886 in Moscow, from 1886 to 1889 at the court theater in Dresden, then again in Berlin at the court theater, at the Lessing Theatre and the New Theatre. From 1910 headed the small German Theatre in Łódź. Klein was married to actress Jenny Frauenthal.

Work

The virtuoso, versatile actor Klein appeared at the Düsseldorf Goethe Festival and in numerous guest appearances, which led him to London. Adolf Klein embodied in lead roles including the Franz Moor, the worm, the Duke of Alba, King Lear, Nathan the Wise, the perjury Bauer, Iago or Shylock. In the film he starred, among others, Ernst Lubitsch, 1920 in Anne Boleyn.
