Agathodaimon (Band)
Agathodaimon is a German dark metal band from Mainz.
History
The band was formed in 1995 by guitarist Martin " Sathonys " winders (formerly Nocte Obducta ) and drummer Matthias Rodig ( Nocte Obducta, Age of Aggression, Necrorgasm ). After some music magazines classified ads start running, met vocalist and keyboardist Andrei " Vlad Dracul " Rusu and bassist Marko Thomas joined the band. After a few samples, the band decided that a second guitarist was needed. After two months was also found with a Carl " Hyperion " long.
Together, the band recorded their first demo in 1996 called Carpe Noctem on, which got lots of praise from the press. This meant that some record companies were aware of the band and the band responded. So took Agathodaimon 1997 their second demo Near Dark on with the financial support of Century Media. Also this demo was well received by the press and more than 2,000 copies have been sold. The demos showed still influences of Black Metal, which were not taken from the second album.
In 1998 the band signed a recording contract with the label Nuclear Blast. The debut album Blacken the Angel was announced for the first quarter of 1998. Some of the pieces of the demos were re-recorded for the debut album. Singer Andrei Rusu went before the recordings to Romania to visit some relatives there. When he wanted to go back to Germany again, his departure, however, was denied. After some delay, the band recorded the album with the help of Frank " Akaias " Nordman (vocals and guitar with Asaru ) and Marcel " Vampellans Traumschänder " Breuer ( Nocte Obducta, dinner on Uranus, Thâlsperre, Cüühn ) on .. Andrei Rusu only steered the song Contemplation song in which he sent to his bandmates by DAT.
With Frank Nordmann on vocals and Marcel Breuer on the keyboard Agathodaimon went with bands like Benediction and Hypocrisy on tour. At this time Martin winder, Marcel Breuer and Matthias Rodig also played in the band Nocte Obducta. Martin, who played bass there, this band left in 2000 but after the recording of their second album tavern, in order to concentrate on Agathodaimon.
In 1999, Christine " Sateria " Schulte new keyboard player and the band traveled to Romania to the second album Higher Art of record there with Andrei Rusu rebellion. The producers in the studios used for this purpose had no experience with the music direction and the sound of the album did not meet the expectations of the band. On the subsequent tour in 2000 Agathodaimon played as headliners along with Transylvania and Graveworm. Also this year, the band played at the Wacken Open Air and at the Wave -Gotik-Treffen. Rufus previous live representative Frank Nordmann became the official singer of the band, while Rusu decided to leave the band because of the large geographical distance as well as musical differences.
2001, the third album was released Chapter III. Musically, the band was based more on the debut album again, but also elements of progressive and melodic metal with a flowed into the pieces. In the song Sacred Divinity of controversial musician Josef Maria Klumb participated as guest vocalist.
After the release of the album found some personnel changes take place within the band. Bass player Marko Thomas left the band because he had to fight for a stomach operation with health problems and guitarist Carl Lang had to leave the band due to personal differences. Christine Schulte also left the band to start his own. Singer Frank Nordmann took over now also the guitar. With Felix Ü. Waltz (All Will Know, ex- Opalessence, ex- The Legacy ) has been found a new keyboardist and a few months later came with Darin " Eddie" Smith again a bass player for the band.
In 2003, the work on Serpent 's Embrace began in 2004, the album was finally released. Agathodaimon also contributed a song to the soundtrack of the film Alone in the Dark at. This song was written exclusively for this film.
This bassist Smith left the band in 2006 for personal reasons and was replaced by Till Ottinger. The end of 2006 decided to Frank Nordmann of Germany to move to Norway and thus to leave the band. Jonas Iscariot (formerly all: my: faults ) replaced him in terms of singing and Jan Jansohn (All Will Know, Adorned Brood, Ex - Dunkelschön, Ex - Opalessence ) on guitar.
2008 left a founding member and vocalist Jonas Iscariot Matthias Rodig the band due to lack of time. Rodig was replaced by Manuel Steitz .. Jonas Iscariot until 2009 took place in Chris ' Ashtrael " Bonner a permanent successor.
2009, the fifth studio album Phoenix was released.
2010 separated Agathodaimon and Jan Jansohn be. Due to musical differences and keyboardist Felix Ü Waltz got out. The vacant position on the guitar took over Thilo Feucht, who occasionally helped out at concerts for many years.
In November 2012, the band went on with Graveworm Fragments of Death tour.
On June 28, 2013, the sixth studio album In Darkness was released, which had been recorded since February 12, 2013 in the coal cellar studio under the guidance of producer Kristian Kohlmannslehner.
