Aguie is a department in the region of Maradi in Niger.

Geography

The Department is located in the south of the country, bordering Nigeria. It consists of the township Aguie and the rural community Tchadoua. The eponymous capital is Aguie.

History

The area originally belonged to the district of Aguie Tessaoua. 1972 Aguie was dissolved as a separate district from Tessaoua. In 1998, the former arrondissements of Niger in departments were converted, each headed by an appointed Council of Ministers is prefect. The structure of the department in communities exists since the year 2002. Previously, it consisted of the urban center Aguie and the cantons and Aguie Gangara. 2011 Gazaoua was dissolved as a separate department from the Department Aguie. The 2013 appointed Prefect of Aguie is Inoussa Oumarou.

Population
