Akio Johnson Mutek

Akio Johnson Mutek ( born January 2, 1958 in Lodwara Tala, Sudan, † March 17, 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya) was Bishop of Torit.

Life

Akio Johnson Mutek grew due to the civil war in Sudan with his family in Uganda. In 1982 he entered the seminary of Juba and studied philosophy. From 1984 to 1988 he studied Catholic theology at the seminary in Khartoum. He received on 18 December 1988, the ordination. He was active in pastoral ministry in Khartoum and Bahati in the Diocese of Nakuru in Kenya (1989-90 ) and in Torit, the capital of the state of Eastern Equatoria in southern Sudan. Due to the intake of Torit by government forces, he was forced to flee to Kampala, capital of Uganda. He graduated from 1991 trials in the U.S. from 1992 to 1996, a study of social communication at the Maryknoll School of Theology in Maryknoll, New York. He was vicar general of the Diocese of Torit in 1996.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 18 May 1999 as Titular Bishop of Suava and Auxiliary Bishop of Torit. He received his episcopal consecration the Apostolic Nuncio in Sudan, Marco Dino Brogi, OFM, on 15 August of the same year; Were co-consecrators Paulino Lukudu Loro MCCJ, Archbishop of Juba, Paride Taban and, Bishop of Torit.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 9 June 2007 as Bishop of Torit.

Mutek died as a result of two kidney transplants.
