History

Formation and development

On 2 May 1983, the Diocese of Torit was founded and the Archdiocese of Juba assumed as suffragan.

Pastoral situation

(2000 )

Because of the civil war the seat of the diocese is temporarily at Narus, 50 kilometers from the Kenyan border. The greater part of the diocesan territory is controlled by the Sudan People's Liberation Army ( SPLA). Torit and some other larger villages are controlled by the central government and can not be supplied by Narus. Through an agreement with the Bishop of Malakal, the Bishop of Torit cares about the communities in the area around Boma, in the diocese of Malakal.
