Roman Catholic Diocese of Wau

The diocese of Wau (Latin Dioecesis Vavensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Wau and includes the regions of the states of Western Bahr el Ghazal, Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Warrap in South Sudan.

History

On May 13, 1913, the Apostolic Prefecture of Bahr el Ghazal was established and separated from the Apostolic Vicariate of Central Africa. She was raised on June 13, 1917 the Vicariate Apostolic and split up in 1955 in a number of newly built Apostolic Vicariate Apostolic Prefectures and. On May 26, 1961, the Apostolic Vicariate of Bahr al - Ghazal was renamed in Wau and 1974 raised to the diocese.
