Akira Rabelais

Akira Rabelais ( born March 28, 1966 in Texas, United States) is an American musician, composer and software developer.

Life

Raised in Texas Rabelais played in the 1980s in various bands Austiner guitar before he turned to electronic music. He studied at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont, and at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California.

1999 appeared on the Mille Plateaux - subsidiary label ritornello Elongated Pentagonal Pyramid his debut album with experimental electronic music. Also on ritornello was published in 2001 the second album Eisoptrophobia. In this edited and alienated Rabelais recordings of classical piano pieces by Béla Bartók and Erik Satie.

This was followed by albums on labels such as Orthlorng Musork, Samadhisound, En / Of and schoolmap. Rabelais has worked with artists such as Ekkehard Ehlers, David Sylvian, Harold Budd, Daniel Menche and Björk.

In addition to his music Rabelais also developed music software. The most famous is Argeiphontes Lyre, which has also been used by musicians and sound artists like Stephan Mathieu, Kim Cascone, Terre Thaemlitz and scanner.

Rabelais lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
