Ekkehard Ehlers

Ekkehard Ehlers ( born 1974 in Frankfurt ) is a German musician, DJ and sound artist. His music draws on influences from electronic music, free jazz and folk. In addition to publications under his real name uses pseudonyms such as Ehlers Also, operation and Ferdinand failure to publish his music. With Sebastian Meissner he produced under the project name Autopoieses and together with Albrecht Kunze as of March.

Life and career

Ehlers studied in his hometown of philosophy, but then turned quickly to the music production. From 1999 to 2002 he sat at different ballet music for the choreographer William Forsythe. His debut album was released in 2000 operating at the Frankfurt record label Mille Plateaux. As of 2002, Ehlers published with his Listens series tributes to artists such as the jazz musician Albert Ayler, the blues singer Robert Johnson, director John Cassavetes, the writer Hubert Fichte and the composer Cornelius Cardew. The publications were merged in 2002 as a compilation album, provided with liner notes by Diedrich Diederichsen and Thomas Meinecke and re-released on dust gold. In the same year the first album of his project in March, which also received good international reviews appeared.

2005 Ehlers produced with musician David Toop the compilation Childish Music with " naive music " by Kazumasa Hashimoto, Lawrence, Devendra Banhart, chamber Kollektief, Dr. Rockit, Maher Shalal Hash Baz, FS Blumm, Anne Laplantine and World Standard.

He teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts Saar and at the Merz Akademie in Stuttgart. Ehlers lives in Frankfurt am Main and Berlin.
