Akuapim North District

The Akuapim North District (also: Akuapem North or North Akapim or Akwapim North ) is located in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Chief executive of the 544 km ² large district with 104 754 (2002) inhabitants, Edward Adu Aboagye. District capital is Akropong. This district was formed by decree by the then military dictator Jerry Rawlings from the Akuapim district.

Population and geography

The district extends on a hilly area and is exceptionally high 381-488 meters. The highest point is 500 meters above sea level. In the district live mainly Akwapim, after which the district is named. Constituencies

The Akuapim North District has been divided into two constituencies. In the constituency Okere Brandford Kwame Adu Daniel of the New Patriotic Party Party ( NPP) has been chosen as a direct candidate in the Ghanaian parliament. For the constituency of William Ofori Boafo Akropong also moved for the NPP in parliament.
