Asuogyaman District

The Asuogyaman District located in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Chief executive of the 664 km ² large district with 80 529 (2000) inhabitants, Emmanuel Ntow Bediako. District capital is Atimpoku. The district was formed in 1989 from the district Kaoga.

The Akosombo Dam, the most important hydroelectric plant in Ghana is located in this district. Traditionally, the district is situated on both sides of the Volta Dam and therefore an important trading point for domestic shipping and trade. Also, due to the tourist attraction of the Volta Dam and the dam attracts a wide range of tourist district. The Adomi Bridge is one of the most important transport links between the two sides of the Volta dar. This bridge was built in 1956 and is 241.50 meters ( 805 feet), the longest bridge in Ghana.

As late as 1960 resulted in a census recorded a population of 23 797 in today's district. 1970 already 43,024 people lived in the district 55 827 1984.

The Asuogyaman District consists of a constituency. In the constituency Aburi - Nsawam Magnus Opare - Asamoah from the party New Patriotic Party (NPP ) has been selected as a direct candidate in the Ghanaian parliament.
