Birim South District

The Birimian South District is located in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Chief executive of the 1070 km ² large district with 178 459 (2002) inhabitants, Frank M. Bosumtwi. District capital is Akim Oda. The district was created in 1989 from the Birimian District.

Population and geography

In the district 70 percent of the population belong to the Akan peoples. Other peoples are the Ewe and the tribes from the north of Ghana. Traditionally, on the territory of today's tribal areas with a district chief ( chief ) in Kotoku, bosome and Abuakwa.

So far, eight forest reserves was established with a total area of ​​190.68 km ² in the district. The Birimian South District consists of two constituencies.
