Al Coppage

Alton Minor Coppage ( born February 8, 1916 in Hollis, Oklahoma, USA, † January 9, 1992, ibid ), nicknamed " Cop " was an American football player. He played as an end in the National Football League ( NFL) for the Chicago Cardinals and in the All-America Football Conference ( AAFC ) at the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills.

Career

Al Coppage played during his studies at the University of Oklahoma Football, but was also active as a sprinter in athletics. In 1940 he was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals, coached by Jimmy Conzelman in the eleventh round to 111 place. Coppage played for the Cardinals on the position of an end. A title win did not succeed with the Cardinals. After the 1942 season Coppage did his military service in the U.S. Air Force, where he played football for the " Amarillo Air Force Base Sky Giants ". After his service in the army Coppage returned to professional sports and the Cleveland Browns joined them, who played in the AAFC newly established. Coach of the team was Paul Brown, who could lead the team in 1946 in the AAFC final. The Browns won the game against the New York Yankees with 14:9. After another year at the Buffalo Bills game Al Coppage ended his career. He then worked in the timber industry.
