Life and work

The son of jazz saxophonist Jimmy Skidmore received his musical education at the conservatory in London. He was a longtime member of the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band, but also took with Keith Tippett's Centipede, Volker Kriegel, Chick Corea, Rolf Kühn and the big bands of Stan Tracey and Charlie Watts on plates. He also played with Niels -Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Weather Report and various big bands (BBC, NDR, WDR). In the early 1990s he was a member of the Dedication Orchestra. In recent years he has been repeatedly pointed out in the ensemble of Colin Towns and has presented productions with South African musicians. It occurs in central Europe more frequently in groups to Ali Haurand.

Skidmores phrasing and tone production is although autonomous, heavily influenced by John Coltrane. In 1969, he was rated as the best soloist during his appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival and his quintet of the press awarded the 1st prize. For many years he was a prize winner in the English jazz polls at the Melody Maker for tenor saxophone. Skidmore is also entered as a studio musician in appearance ( The Nice, Soft Machine, Walker Brothers, Kate Bush, Van Morrison ).
