Centipede (Band)

Centipede was a progressive rock big band with more than 50 members, was organized and led by the British free jazz pianist Keith Tippett. The ensemble was founded in November 1970 brought together many young British jazz and rock musicians, including Soft Machine, King Crimson, Nucleus and Blossom Toes and members of the classic London School of Music.

The band performed in several concerts in England, France and the Netherlands Tippett's large format and genre -breaking work on Septober Energy, which was also published on the groundbreaking double album Septober Energy 1971. Already in the group sound, the band clearly different from everything else that was produced and published rock trend in the former Progressive. According to Tippett it was " a band that you had to see them live ." For economic reasons, he had to resolve the band in the fall of 1971.
