Jimmy Skidmore

Jimmy Skidmore ( born February 8, 1916 in London as Richard James Skidmore, there † 22 August 1998) was an English saxophonist of traditional and mainstream jazz.

Skidmore first played guitar before he moved at age 20 to the tenor saxophone. In the early 1940s he played with George Shearing in West London Rhythm Club and the Radio Rhythm Club Quartet of the BBC; then he played with Harry Parry ( 1942), with Carlo Krahmer (1943 ), Frank Deniz Spirits of Rhythm and Eric Winstone (1944). Then he worked at the Vic Lewis - Jack Parnell Jazzmen or at Vic Lewis to subsequently perform with Victor Feldman and Kenny Baker. Between 1956 and 1960 he played with Humphrey Lyttelton. Since the 1960s, he returned to the jazz scene, first the back and worked as a journalist and then in a supermarket, but played again since the 1980s, first with Kathy Stobart, then with his own groups.

His son Alan Skidmore was also a jazz musician and joined occasionally with him.
