Career

Costa began his motorsport career in karting in 2000, where he was active until 2006. In 2007 he moved to Formula racing and entered directly in the national class of the British Formula 3 Championship. For Raikkonen Robertson Racing, he competed in nine races and finished on the end of the season in eleventh place overall. 2008 Costa was for Epsilon Euskadi in two series active: In the Western European Formula Renault, he finished with four podium finishes fifth overall and in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup he was eighth. 2009 Costa remained in both racing series and won the championship both series. While he won eight titles in the Western European Formula Renault for himself, he won four races in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. In both series, Jean- Éric Vergne was his biggest competitor for the title.

2010 started as Costa teammate of Japanese Keisuke Kunimoto for Epsilon Euskadi in the Formula Renault 3.5. Although he remained a victory denied, through regular points finishes and three podium finishes he finished the season in fifth place overall, however, and distanced Kunimoto, who was 22, clearly. 2011 Costa denied his second season in Formula Renault 3.5. His team has now been adopted by EPIC Racing. After he had finished three races on the podium, he won the season finale in Barcelona in his first race. In the drivers' standings, he improved to the end of the season in fourth place.

After Costa failed in winter 2011/2012 to raise the budget for another season in Formula racing, he opted for a change in touring car racing. He started 2012 in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy for the Oregon team that had won in the previous year, the team standings. Costa won seven out of fourteen races and won the title match against Bas Schothorst.
