Albert-Édouard Janssen

Albert Edouard and Marie Henri Janssen ( born April 1, 1883 in Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium, † March 29, 1966 in Merchtem, Flemish Brabant, Belgium) was a Belgian university teacher and politician of the Catholic party and the Christelijke Volkspartij (CVP ).

Biography

After school he studied law, political and social science studies and graduated with a doctorate from the Doctor of Law. After graduation, he worked as a lawyer.

In 1908 he was first secretary and then from 1919 to 1925 director of the National Bank of Belgium. In addition, he took a teaching position in 1911 as a professor at the Catholic University of Leuven on. In 1920 he was also a member of the finance committee of the League of Nations and was one of these until 1940.

In June 1925 he was appointed by Prime Minister Prosper Poullet as finance minister for the first time in a government and this was on until May 1926.

The finance minister, he held again between December 1938 and February 1939 in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Paul -Henri Spaak. After that, he was from 1940 to 1945 Interim President of the Caisse Générale d' Espargne et de retreat.

After the end of World War II him the honorary title of Minister of State was awarded for his political services on 24 June 1949.

From January 1952 to April 1954 he was finally for the third time as a member of the finance minister government of Prime Minister Jean Van Houtte. Subsequently, he was president of the Société Belge de Banque.

He most recently served as representative of the CVP 1956-1965 co-opted member of the Senate. It was later published by the Belgian Post in his honor a special stamp.
