Aleksandr Pogorelov

Alexander Pogorelov Gennadjewitsch (Russian Александр Геннадьевич Погорелов, English transcription Aleksandr Pogorelov, . Born January 10, 1980 in Zheleznogorsk ) is a Russian decathlete. He participated in the World Championships, the Mösle Mehrkampf meeting in Götzis and the Olympic Games.

At the European Indoor Championships 2005 in Seville he won with 6111 points, the silver medal in the heptathlon, which takes the place of the decathlon in the hall.

At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005, he finished with 8246 points in fifth place and confirmed once again that he is a world leader. However, he could have done without his weakness in the final discipline, the 1500 -meter run, certainly had opportunities to the bronze medal. Thus, covered with the Hungarian Attila Zsivóczky (third ) and the German André Niklaus (fourth ) two athletes past him. At the European Championships in 2006, he was after nine disciplines in second place. After the 1500 -meter run, he reached fourth place with 8245 points and 100 points off a medal. Again, the Hungarian Zsivóczky was drawn past him and also his countryman Alexei Drozdov.

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin succeeded Pogorelov to win the bronze medal in the victory by the American Trey Hardee.
