Trey Hardee

James Edward " Trey " Hardee III ( born February 7, 1984 in Birmingham, Alabama) is an American decathlete and world champion in 2009 and 2011. At a height of 1.96 m his competition weight is 96 kg.

Career

Trey Hardee was born in 1984 in Birmingham, where he also grew up. He originally wanted to be a basketball player, but was taken in his junior year in high school in Vestavia Hills from the school team. Thereupon Hardee turned to athletics. He started with the pole vault and took once a year at the National Championships in the decathlon in part, at first due to the non-school days. After his high school graduation 2002, Hardee enrolled at Mississippi State University. There he joined the pole vault for the decathlon.

2003 Hardee occupied at the college Indoor Championships SEC a seventh place in the pole vault and with 7544 points Third place in the decathlon. In the same year he was at the College NCAA Championships with 7468 points in fifth place. In the following years it was possible to continuously improve Hardee in the decathlon. In 2004 he occupied at the NCAA Championships with 8041 points Second place, won with 7480 points, the SEC Championships with 7218 points, the NACAC Championships under 23 years of age.

After setting the athletics program at Mississippi State University 2004 Hardee moved to the University of Texas at Austin. In 2005 he won the first time with 7881 points, the NCAA Championships. At the Texas Relays in the same year he also won the decathlon ( 7839 points) and took prize-winning places at the Indoor Championships in Houston ( silver ) and the NCAA heptathlon (bronze). In 2006, Hardee again at the NCAA Championships after seven in ten disciplines, before he could reach a valid attempt in the pole vault and dropped back to ninth place in the victory of Jake Arnold.
