Alessandro Barnabò

Alessandro Barnabò ( born March 2, 1801 in Foligno, † February 24, 1874 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Barnabò came from an Italian noble family. He studied in Foligno, Camerino and the University La Sapienza in Rome. In 1831 he was Koadjutorkanonikus at the Vatican Basilica and later ajutante di studio of the future Cardinal Paolo Polidori, secretary of the Congregation Council.

Pope Pius IX. took him in the consistory of 16 June 1856, Cardinal Priest of Santa Susanna in the College of Cardinals to. Four days later he was Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation of Propaganda. In the same year he was also protector of the Pontifical North American College. In 1858, he organized a meeting between Pius IX. Isaac Thomas Hecker and, founder of the Paulist Fathers. From 1868 to 1869 he was also treasurer of the Holy College of Cardinals. Cardinal Barnabò took from 1869 to 1870 at the First Vatican Council in part. He died in 1874, shortly before his 73rd birthday.
