Paolo Polidori

Paolo Polidori ( born January 4, 1778 in Jesi, the Papal States, † April 23, 1847 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal.

Life

Paolo Polidori studied at the seminary of Perugia and was ordained a priest in 1800. In 1803 he became vicar general of the diocese of Viterbo, where he stayed until 1806. After that Polidori was assistant dean of the later Cardinal Leonardo Antonelli and his vicar general in the diocese of Ostia - Velletri suburbicarian. When the French occupied Rome, the young priest was captured and brought to Milan. Only in 1814 could Paolo Polidori return. The new Cardinal Alessandro Mattei dean appointed him administrator. In the 1820s he was secretary of various congregations, including Congregation of the Council. Also served in the conclaves of 1829 and 1830/31 Polidori as secretary.

Under Pope Gregory XVI. Polidori was initially pro- secretary for internal church affairs before he was accepted as a cardinal priest of Sant'Eusebio the College of Cardinals by Pope on June 23, 1834. In 1839, he opted for the titular church of Santa Prassede and 1841 was Prefect of the Congregation Council. He received episcopal consecration only on February 11, 1844 Pope after he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Tarsus. After the death of Gregory XVI. belonged to Cardinal Polidori to the participants of the conclave of 1846, Pius IX the. chose as his successor. Paolo Polidori died in 1847. He was buried in the church of San Ignazio, as it was his will.
