Alessandro Profumo

Alessandro Profumo ( born February 17, 1957 in Genoa) was for 15 years Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of the European banking group UniCredit Group. He was instrumental in the Konsoliederung the Italian banking sector.

Life

Alessandro Profumo was the youngest of five sons in a family of entrepreneurs. He spent his childhood up to the age of 13 in Palermo in 1970 and moved with his parents to Milan.

He studied economics, he studied at the Milan Bocconi University, in 1987 he completed his studies with a diploma in Business Administration.

Alessandro Profumo began in 1977 at the age of 20 years to work at Banco Larian SpA. In 1987, the manager as a consultant for McKinsey in the financial sector. 1989 he moved to Boston consultancy firm Bain & Company. In the board of the RAS ( Riunione Adriatica di Sicurtà ), a Milanese insurance, which belongs to the Allianz Group, he pulled out a 1991. As Direttore Centrale (General Manager) he was responsible for the activities in the areas of banking and para- banking.

When the RAS in 1994 participated in the just -privatized Credito Italiano and then second largest Italian bank with 5%, Alessandro Profumo took over first the seat on the board of the bank as Condirettore Centrale ( Deputy General Manager) with responsibility for strategic planning and control, and increased a year later Direttore Generale ( Chief General Manager) on. For Amministratore Delegato (Chief Executive Officer - CEO), he was appointed in 1997 and was thus at the age of 40 years recently head of an Italian major bank.

Under his leadership, the UniCredit Group has developed to date for a variety of acquisitions and restructuring one of the most profitable banks in Italy and one of the largest banking groups in Europe. The holders of UniCredit Group confirmed Profumo in 2009 with the extension of his term of office.

The manager has taken more positions in the financial services industry during his time as CEO until today: Since 2002 he is member of the Board of Directors of Mediobanca SpA, a holding of UniCredit Group. In 2007 he resigned his Supervisory Board of Deutsche Börse AG, on the basis of impending conflicts of interest between his mandate in Frankfurt and the role of the Bank as a major shareholder of the new London Stock Exchange Milan, down. From 2005 ( the takeover by UniCredit Group, 2005) to January 2009 (completion of integration) was Profumo Chairman of the Board at Bayerische Hypo-und Vereinsbank AG. Chairman of Supervisory Board of UniCredit Bank Austria AG (formerly Bank Austria Creditanstalt; takeover by UniCredit Group by HVB 2005), he is since 2006.

After criticism of the Libya - commitment of the bank Profumo entered 2010 as CEO of Unicredit Group back. Since early 2012 he has been CEO of the third largest bank in Italy, Monte dei Paschi di Siena
